High-performance cushions for perfect billiards
Decize, 25 October 2016. The World Three-Cushion Championship is scheduled to be held from 15 to 19 November 2016 in Bordeaux for the second consecutive year. The world’s elite players will compete for the title, including last year’s winner and the sport’s No. 1 player, Torbjörn Blomdahl. The top competitors will have ideal playing conditions at the Palais des Congrès. The quality of the billiard table itself is of special importance. It will be equipped once again with KLEMATCH® billiard cushions made by Anvis Industry, a member of the Anvis Group, which is part of the Japanese Sumitomo Riko Group. During last year’s world championship, the elite competitors had special words of praise for the profile cushions. The players pointed in particular to the rebound characteristics of the balls and the precision of the game. In mid-November, nearly 1,200 billiard fans will watch nervously as 48 players from 25 countries compete for the world title in the Palais des Congrès. The qualification round will be held on the first three days of the tournament. The knock-out rounds will follow, culminating in the championship game on 19 November 2016. The tournament will be played on four tables, all of which are equipped with high-end KLEMATCH® billiard cushions.
Uniform profile – high precision
A special mixture of natural rubber perfected during decades of refinement work combined with other elastomers lends exceptional qualities, particularly in terms of elasticity and durability, to the material. To deliver the same consistent quality throughout a billiard table’s life, KLEMATCH® is produced in an optimised process. During this process, the special rubber mixture is vulcanised in specially designed forms. Unlike extrusion, in which the rubber mixture is pressed through a die and formed in the process, the KLEMATCH® profile cushions have a uniform geometry.
As a result, the created profiles produce exacting shots. The forward force that the ball has when it hits the cushion is almost completely returned, positively affecting the ball’s speed in the process. The entire table must have the same level of this quality to ensure that both professionals and amateurs will experience perfect playing conditions.
Investment in the future
Anvis Industry produces cushions for tables used for pool, snooker and carom billiards in Decize, France. The company with the long tradition is investing in its production operations this year. “By taking this step, we are ensuring that we can deliver high quality in future,” Nanquette said. “With the help of innovations and new technical possibilities, we can further optimise the cushions, particularly in terms of precision and form stability.” Today, the cushions can maintain absolute form stability for eight to 10 years.
